Tigree: Where the River Tells Stories
Set along the sacred banks of the Ganga in Amroha district, Tigree is not just a village, it is an experience waiting to unfold. Located just 9 km from Gajraula, this riverside settlement draws visitors in with its quiet spirituality, living traditions, and an unfiltered glimpse into rural life. Tigree was identified under the Uttar Pradesh Rural Tourism Project for its unique blend of natural beauty and cultural richness. Its potential lies in the presence of revered temples, the rhythm of life shaped by the Ganga, and the annual Ganga Snan Mela, which transforms the village into a vibrant hub of faith, culture, and community.
 Building a Destination, Together
The transformation of Tigree into a rural tourism destination has been a community-led effort, facilitated by Geostat. The process began with ground surveys to understand the village context and identify gaps affecting visitor experience, followed by developing a clear tourism vision based on local strengths. Local families, artisans, and service providers were engaged and trained, ensuring tourism becomes a shared livelihood opportunity. A Village Tourism Committee was established to enable local ownership and structured decision-making. Simultaneously, homestay and farmstay options were developed to offer authentic rural experiences. To promote Tigree, curated itineraries, partnerships with tour operators, and visibility through UP Tourism platforms were also initiated

 What Makes Tigree Unforgettable
There’s something quietly powerful about Tigree. It’s in the way the Ganga flows past the village, carrying stories with it. It’s in the temple bells, the evening aarti, and the simplicity of meals cooked with ingredients grown just a few steps away. But what truly makes Tigree stand out is the feeling it leaves you with: a sense of slowing down, of reconnecting, of witnessing life as it is, not as it is curated.

What You Can Experience

Walk, Pause, Discover

Take a walk through Tigree and you’ll realise it’s not just about moving from one place to another, it’s about slowing down and observing. The narrow village paths, mud houses, open courtyards, and everyday life unfolding around you create a deeply personal experience. Visit temples like the Shiv Temple and Radha Krishna Temple, where devotion is not confined to rituals but is part of daily living. The sound of bells, morning prayers, and local gatherings offer a glimpse into the spiritual rhythm that shapes life here.

Evenings by the Ganga

As the day gently fades, Tigree reveals one of its most memorable moments: sunset by the Ganga. The ghats glow in soft golden light, villagers gather for evening rituals, and the calmness of the flowing river creates a sense of stillness that is rare to find. It’s a time to sit back, reflect, and simply absorb the atmosphere. The experience is quiet yet powerful, leaving a lasting impression long after you leave.

On the River

A boat ride on the Ganga in Tigree is much more than a scenic activity, it is a storytelling journey. As you glide across the water, local guides share folklore, history, and personal anecdotes connected to the river and the village. The experience becomes even more special during certain seasons when you may spot river dolphins or gharials, offering a rare blend of nature, culture, and storytelling in one setting.

When the Village Celebrates

If you visit Tigree in November, you’ll witness the village at its most vibrant during the Ganga Snan Mela. What is otherwise a quiet settlement transforms into a lively space filled with pilgrims, colours, crafts, food stalls, and devotional energy. The mela is not just an event, it’s a cultural experience where traditions come alive, and visitors can truly understand the scale and significance of faith and community in rural India.

Stay the Village Way

To truly experience Tigree, staying in the village is essential. Homestays and farmstays offer more than just accommodation, they offer a way of life. Wake up to the sounds of nature, share meals with local families, and experience hospitality that is warm, simple, and genuine. Whether it’s a traditional mud house or a farmstay setup, every stay allows you to connect closely with the people and their way of living.

From Farm to Plate

Food in Tigree is an experience in itself. Step into nearby farms and see where your meal begins, from the soil to the kitchen. Freshly harvested ingredients, traditional cooking methods, and recipes passed down through generations make every meal wholesome and meaningful. Sitting by the Ganga or in a village courtyard while enjoying a simple, home-cooked meal adds a sense of connection that goes beyond taste.

Hands that Create

Tigree is also home to skilled local artisans and women who are engaged in creating woollen and handmade products. Visitors can interact with them, understand the process behind their craft, and even participate in making small items. These experiences not only support local livelihoods but also give visitors something truly special to take back, a product with a story, made by hand, rooted in the village.
